Design Optimization with Cart3D


Optimization aerodynamic design of a vehicle is challenging. Optimization with CAD geometry in an automated loop is even more challenging. CAPRI is enabling engineers at NASA to perform thousands of Cart3D design studies with parametric CAD models.

CAPRI provides the key ingredients to make this possible.

  • Hands-off geometry transfer from CAD to Cart3D
  • Permits simulation code to drive parametric changes in the actual CAD model
  • Very high reliability in generating watertight components for design variations
  • Distributed computing architecture to support optimization in a heterogeneous computing environment
